Common Orthodontic Problems

Orthodontic problems affect people of all ages and can significantly impact oral health, functionality, and appearance. Orthodontic treatments such as braces and Invisalign can effectively address the orthodontic problems, improving oral function and overall aesthetic.

Types of Braces

Metal Braces

Metal braces, the most common type of fixed orthodontic appliances, are made of high-grade stainless steel and consist of brackets and arch wires. Modern metal braces are designed to be smaller, lighter, and more efficient than ever before.

Ceramic Braces

The brackets of ceramic braces are made of translucent glass material; they look less prominent and more appealing than their metal counterparts. For this reason, ceramic braces are popular with older teens and adults. They won’t stain or discolor the teeth even when worn for a long period of time.

Lingual Braces

Lingual braces are fitted to the back of the teeth and are completely invisible from the front. They are ideal for those who do not wish to compromise their appearance with visible orthodontic braces.

Invisalign

Invisalign uses a series of custom-made, clear, removable aligners that gradually straighten teeth. Free of metal wires and brackets, Invisalign provides several benefits.

Dr. Eung-Soo Kim has been practicing as an Invisalign provider designated by Invisalign Korea since 2008.

Other Orthodontic Appliances

Besides traditional braces and Invislign, various other orthodontic appliances are used to treat misaligned teeth and jaws as follows: combi-braces, clear aligners, miniscrews, headgears, face masks, Hyrax expanders, fixed and removable retainers, etc.

Orthodontic Treatment Procedure

1

I. Initial Visit

Our orthodontist examines your teeth, jaws and facial structure and advises you on what orthodontic treatment would be good for you.

2

II. Orthodontic Examination

Orthodontic records are taken for assessment and your treatment plan. The orthodontic records include dental history, digital models, photographs, CT, X-rays, etc.

3

III. Orthodontic Consultation

Based on the precise measurements in the records, our orthodontist explains the details of your teeth alignment and bite problems and discusses your treatment options.

4

IV. Orthodontic Treatment

Once the orthodontic appliances are placed or delivered, you will need to receive periodic treatment every 4~6 weeks depending on your orthodontic case.

Upon the completion of your orthodontic treatment, you are required to wear retainers as directed. The appointment for a retainer check-up is arranged every 6 months.

How Long Does Orthodontic Treatment Take?

The length of orthodontic treatment depends on the complexity of each case, types of appliances, and so on.
While the average length is 12 to 24 months, our orthodontist will estimate the length of treatment upon your comprehensive examination.
