In many instances dental implants can be a highly effective method for replacing missing teeth. The implants offer a more permanent solution than bridges and can last a lifetime with proper care.
At A Plus Dental Clinic, we offer the Straumann implant line which is widely considered a top-tier brand in dental implants, recognized for its reliability, long-term success rates and the brand’s extensive experience in implantology.

* Impressive long-term outcomes have been reported with Straumann implants in peer-reviewed publications, including 10-year survival rates of 97–99% in more than 600 patients.

A dental implant system has three important parts:

Implant (fixture) : This is the titanium post that is surgically placed into the jawbone to act as the artificial tooth root.
Abutment : This is a connector piece that attaches the implant to the restoration. It protrudes above the gum line and provides a platform for the crown or other prosthesis.
Restoration (Crown) : This is the visible part of the implant, such as crowns, bridges or dentures.

Implant Procedure

Step 1: Pre-Surgical Evaluation

Our doctor takes a thorough examination with X-rays and 3-D CT scan, assesses the density and volume of bone structure, and develops a detailed treatment plan for each patient.

Step 2: Surgical Placement of the Implant

The procedure is done under local anesthesia. After making a small incision in the gum, a small hole is drilled into the bone where the implant will be placed. Then the implant post (titanium post) is inserted into the bone.

Step 3: Healing Phase (Osseointegration)

The bone needs time to heal and fuse with the implant, a process called osseointegration. This takes minimum of three months for the lower jaw and four to six months for the upper jaw.

Step 4: Abutment Placement

Once the implant is fully integrated, a small screw-like abutment is attached to the implant. The abutment is designed to connect the artificial tooth to the implant.

Step 5: Restoration of the Tooth

Our doctor takes impressions and makes replacement crowns, bridges, or dentures that will attach to the abutment. This restoration restores your smile and chewing function.

Step 6: Follow-Up Care

Follow-up care is as important as the implant surgery itself. Thorough oral maintenance by flossing and brushing is required at home. Plus, periodic follow-up visits will be scheduled to monitor the implant and ensure its longevity.

Bone Graft & Sinus Lift

The powerful chewing action of your mouth puts great pressure on your bone. Therefore, it is important that there is enough volume in the bone for the implant to secure itself to the jaw and support a false tooth. Before performing the implant surgery, our doctor checks if there is an adequate amount of healthy bone structure to support the implant.
If your jawbone is not sufficient enough or too soft, a bone graft is performed. Through the surgical procedure, the doctor increases the height and width of the bone using an artificial bone for a repair or addition. The bone graft creates a more solid base for the implant.

If there is insufficient amount of bone structure found in your upper jaw, a sinus lift is carried out depending on the current size and shape of the maxillary sinus. This specific type of bone graft involves the lifting of the sinus membrane to allow enough room for the new bone.
The healing period can take anywhere from three to six months, depending on the type of bone graft.
